What is Artesian Water?

Pearl Water is 100% artesian mineral water – sourced from right here in the heart of San Antonio. Filled with naturally occurring minerals and electrolytes, its delicious, smooth taste cannot be replicated.

But what exactly makes water “artesian”?

Artesian water begins in an aquifer: a porous layer of underground rock that stores water until it’s brought to the surface by pressure, in our case the Pearl Water Artesian Well located in front of Stable Hall. Artesian water comes from a very specific type of aquifer, one that’s sandwiched between layers of rock.

The water moves through the underground layers of an aquifer, maybe after a strong rain, where minerals and electrolytes are naturally infused into the water, giving it a delicious taste that is unique to that artesian aquifer. In the case of Pearl Water, the artesian water moves through limestone found beneath the land on which the Pearl Brewery stands. Pure and delicious, Pearl Water is limestone-filtered and free of contaminants. This is where taste, history, and the land come together.

Pearl Water’s aquifer comes from before time, the product of many springs acting as a magnet drawing generations of makers, creators, and doers right to this very spot. Delicious artesian mineral water from Pearl’s well is at the heart of our community – this water brings us this life.
